How to remove permalinks on each post’s title

In the php files there should be a reference to these permalinks, looking like this:

<a href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>" rel="bookmark" title="<?php the_title(); ?>"><?php the_title(); ?></a>

Remove the anchor links:

<?php the_title(); ?>

Sorry I did not understand what I am suppose to do. I tried removing the whole

” rel=”bookmark” title=”<?php the_title(); ?>”><?php the_title(); ?>

but it doesn’t work. I also removed

<?php the_title(); ?>

but it I still have permalinks to all my posts? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for helping

this is what I have under my page.php

<img src=”<?php bloginfo(‘template_url’); ?>/images/PostHeaderIcon.png” width=”26″ height=”26″ alt=”PostHeaderIcon” />
<span class=”PostHeader”>” rel=”bookmark” title=”<?php printf(__(‘Permanent Link to %s’, ‘kubrick’), the_title_attribute(‘echo=0’)); ?>”>
<?php the_title(); ?>

Keep the <?php the_title(); ?> bit and remove <a href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>" rel="bookmark" title="<?php the_title(); ?>" and </a>

I’d like to remove the permalinks from my post titles too. I understand the explanation but looking at my code there is no link visible:
<h2><?php the_title(); ?></h2>

Do you know where I find the php that wraps the link round the title?
