How to remove standard address fields from the checkout form

Hi, Since the update to 4.0.3 the phone-field I had switched off reappeared in my check-out forms and I can’t figure out how to remove it (or even list it as a non-required field).
It’s probably something small but it’s keeping me busy all afternoon, so I could you some help ??
