• I made a new wordpress website on my local server and I’m ready to move it to hostgator, where the current website is hosted. I’m going to use the duplicator plug in. Currently, there’s a wordpress website on the host. I want to replace the old wordpress website with the new wordpress website. What’s the easiest way to do it? Is it as simple as being prompt to overwrite existing files?

I’ve moved wordpress sites locally to online host before but it’s always been to a clean host. Any help will be appreciated.

  • Are you using the same theme? If not, just download the new theme and upload it to your wordpress install. Then select the theme in Appearances menu. Otherwise, if you are using the same theme, you will want to back up the existing theme. Then upload the new files and overwrite them.

@webstyley: No It’s a new theme. It’s a completely new design with new photos, feel, and look. If I upload the new theme to existing site, it would still have the old photos, feel and look. I don’t see how changing the theme only would work.

So if you do not care if you lose all of the content on the existing website, you can just remove the existing install and move your new site.
