  • I’m not 100% convinced that the plugin’s author is violating the guidelines given that the free version is still usable as evidenced by https://www.adrotateplugin.com/features/ and, according to the plugin’s developer, none of the omitted pro features cripple the free version of the plugin.

If the plugin’s author has moved some features to the commercial version of the plugin, that is not a violation of point (b) (“disabling functionality after some time period”) which, as far I understand it, refers to software that allows access to specific functionality for (say) 30 days.

However, if you wish to take this further, then I would suggest that you email plugins [at] www.ads-software.com with all of the relevant details.

    OK, thanks for the reply.

Here is discussion about which features has been removed from free version, and now only available in PRO-version without any warning/notice from plugin’s author.

    – the ability to batch renew ads is gone
    – you can no longer set priorities for ads
    – Fallback groups have been removed

    and more.

I did read all of the topics you mentioned in your original post above before replying and I’m still not convinced that the plugin’s developer has broken any guidelines. Whether I, personally, agree with the changes is another matter entirely. ??

However, a plugin author is at liberty to remove functionality from the free version of the plugin at any time as long as the final free version is still functional. This one, as far as I can see, is. It may no longer have all the bells and whistles that it previously had but it’s still usable “as is”.

Thanks for looking into this, Esmi!

As I said, I could be wrong. Please feel free to email plugins [at] www.ads-software.com about this.

@mayuxi: That sort of thing doesn’t violate our guidelines. If he wants to remove features and put them in a pro version, that’s his call.

    The guidelines specifically prohibit:

    – Trialware, as in features being in the free version that self-disable after a time period, and

    – Unlock codes, such as having features in the free version, hosted on our servers, which you must pay to unlock. Having a feature removed and moved to a pay version does not fit this description.
