How do I reset Yoast SEO to default settings?
-
We are afraid to say that Yoast SEO has no option to reset everything to the default settings. However, if you are familiar with editing the database, you could follow the steps given here to remove everything stored by Yoast SEO: https://yoast.com/help/how-can-i-uninstall-my-plugin/#database
I need it to reset Yoast SEO settings specifically for filters. I changed the settings to tags, categories and archives and more, maybe that’s why I have zero traffic despite good articles.
Using Yoast SEO (or Yoast SEO Premium) does not guarantee high rankings and traffic for your site because Google Rankings depend on?a lot of different factors. Issues that determine rankings include server load, page speed, cache configuration, mobile versions, responsiveness, the site’s content, all of which fall outside of the plugin’s scope.
Having said that, in order to get?more organic?traffic and higher rankings in the search results, the main thing is to optimize your content. Please refer to this?definitive guide?and consider the following:
- Have you submitted your website to the Google search console? If not, please submit your website to the Google search console first by following the steps given in this guide.
- Have you submitted the sitemap to the Google search console? If not, please submit your sitemap to your Google search console by following the steps given in this guide.
- Optimize your content against the focus keyphrases by following this guide.
- Write the perfect SEO title for your posts and pages by following the steps given in this guide.
- Write clean and meaningful meta description of your pages and posts by following the steps given in this guide.
- Optimize the content by using the advanced content analysis feature provided by the Yoast SEO plugin by following the steps given in this guide.
If you’re looking for SEO advice tailored to your website, we strongly recommend you to find a local SEO consultancy company via Google. The good ones should rank first.
How to reset the settings in the appearance search that I changed? Do you have guides? I would be okay with getting screenshots and then copying.

Hi,
The default SEO title template would use the following variables:
Title
Page
Separator
Site title
The default meta description template would be left blank.
You can learn more about the available variables for the title and meta description templates here – https://yoast.com/help/list-available-snippet-variables-yoast-seo/
We understand you’d like to reset it to the default settings to see if it will help with the indexing. We recommend that you redo the configuration workout in order to retest and tweak all of the settings – https://yoast.com/help/how-to-use-the-yoast-seo-configuration-workout/

@mikes41720 In taxonomies, which variables do I insert?
For taxonomies, the default SEO title template would use the following variables:
%%term_title%%
Archives%%page%%
%%sep%%
%%sitename%%
Just to note, it is the actual word ‘Archives’ and not any sort of variable as well.
Great, and for the meta description of taxonomies, what do I put?
Hi,
For the meta description templates for taxonomies (as well as the regular content types for posts and pages), the default is left as blank.
