    Hi there!

I have enabled Jetpack like button on my posts.

Mostly however, especially on first-time post load, the like button does not show up. Instead, readers see a ‘loading’ message. The button appears when the page is refreshed / reloaded the second time. Such behavior of the like button impacts potential engagement with WordPress readers.

I have tried changing the theme, disabling plugins, different browsers, incognito or private mode browsers, verifying Jetpack’s connection with WordPress.com, etc. but to no avail. Hence this support request.

Can someone advice how to resolve this please?

    Kind regards,

    Hey there,

Ouch, sorry to hear about this issue!

I have a couple of options I’d like you to try:

    1) Check with your hosting provider whether there’s any potential blockage from their end, even a tiny one. It could be anything – from an internal firewall to some IP address not being whitelist. (our full IP range can be found here: https://jetpack.com/support/hosting-faq/)
    2) Flush your site cache to see if that improves the situation.
    3) Try temporarily deactivating all your plugins and check if the problem gets fixes that way. If it works, then reactivate each plugin one-by-one to find out which one is causing problems.

Let’s try the above and let’s see what happens ??
Let me know how you get on!

    Thank you for the response.

So, I have tried points 2 and 3 without desired results. I will talk to hosting support (Bluehost) and update the status here.

Since you hint hosting-related or infrastructure-related issues, I should perhaps also mention that I tried removing Cloudflare but the problem persists. I will talk to hosting support (Bluehost) and update the status here.

PS: I must also add that though the problem is intermittent, it occurs enough times to bring down engagement.

Awesome, keep me posted on that!

I tried removing Cloudflare but the problem persists.

We are aware of some conflict between CloudFlare and the Likes module, so that could be there. It’s weird, though, that a cache flush won’t fix it, provided you’re not using CloudFlare anymore.

I can also confirm it’s intermittent as well: I couldn’t see the Like button a few hours ago, now I can see it!

    Thank you very much.

What is interesting is I have noticed this problem on many other www.ads-software.com sites using Jetpack Likes. While that’s no comfort, the reason its interesting is because if its such a common problem, I should have found a fix for it on the web. But there’s none. I just thought of mentioning it here as an observation.

PS: I am online with hosting support now, as I write this. They are looking it up.

Alright, it took a while to verify the list you provided and they confirm that all the IPs are whitelisted. Here’s the transcript of the chat for your quick reference.

    Please advice.

Another thing I tried was to switch back to WordPress.com toolbar. Unfortunately, that did not help either.

I have been trying to fix this for some time now and have kind of exhausted things, that I am aware of, to try. Any advice to resolve will be really helpful.

Are you still not able to see the Like button being loaded 100%?
Did you also go through all the cache clearing etc and the plugins deactivation/reactivation?
Do you know if you’re the only one not seeing it loading? Have you asked a friend to test that for you?

I checked it in different posts on your site, from different browsers (also on incognito mode) and mobile devices, and I could see it everywhere, which is great news.

    Hi there!

    Thank you for your response.

Yes, I’ve tried things that you suggested thus far. My wife and I are are travellers and have tested it from multiple locations, different machines, and browsers.

I’ve also noticed this problem on many other websites (using JetPack Likes) and chose to either ignore it, or try the troubleshooting steps (such as those mentioned above) and nothing has worked.

I raised this request since it severely impacts engagement with WordPress readers. The Like button takes forever and just shows ‘loading’.

The problem is intermittent, as you’ve confirmed yourself. Also, sometimes, it loads after a page refresh. I wonder why when everything else on a page loads flawlessly, the Like button does not.

Any help to resolve this is welcome.

    Kind regards

    Hi there!

I again deactivated and reactivated all the plugins and also the various features of CloudFlare. So, as before, the plugins are okay. But the new version of Rocket Loader module of CloudFlare seems to be interfering with the Jetpack Like button.

For the Rocket Loader module to ignore asynchronously loading the Jetpack Like Button javascript, certain parameters need to be set for that script. The following resources explain it but I am afraid, it does not provide the specific code for ignoring Jetpack Like button.

    1. https://support.cloudflare.com/hc/en-us/articles/200169436-How-can-I-have-Rocket-Loader-ignore-specific-JavaScripts-
    2. https://wp-dreams.com/articles/2014/03/cloudflare-rocket-loader-for-wordpress/

If this assessment seems right, would it be worth a try? And could someone here please help with the corresponding code to insert in functions.php file such that Rocket Loader ignores the Jetpack Like button script from loading asynchronously?

    Thank you,
    Kind regards

    Hey there,

Aaaaah I see that. Sorry I didn’t check on that before hand! We do are aware of the conflict between the Likes module and CloudFlare’s Rocket Loader:

I’m afraid there’s still no easy fix for that that’s not disabling the plugin ??
