• I was trying to rebuild my website files and accidentally deleted it. But the action only deleted the website and left all the files. Now I can’t do anything with it. ( bloggingwithpumrice.com )

    What should I do?

  • Do you have a recent database backup? Does your host?

Hostgater Tech support said it would be better if WP does it because I set it up with Quick install. They are concerned that their effort might mess it up even more

Do you have a recent database backup? www.ads-software.com distributes and documents the WordPress application but has no connection with any site running that software. So we definitely don’t have one.

Can you tell me how to delete all the files that were left behind?
If I could get a FULL delete, I could start over.

If I could get a FULL delete, I could start over.

I did that once by asking my host to reset or “nuke” my account.

My best guess is that you deleted your files and not your database. If you or your host does not have a backup, it would be hard to get any themes, plugins, or any custom modifications back, but your post and settings should at least be within your database.

You can recover from this by uploading the stock WordPress file and then configuring your WordPress admin to connect to your existing database through your wp-config.php file. You will also want to copy any theme or plugin content to the wp-content directory as well. After doing that, you might need a bit more tweaking, but that should get you going in the right direction.

Be sure to keep backups of all of your files at all times as well just in case something goes wrong. I do know that Hostgator uses cPanel in which you could generate a cPanel backup whenever you make changes to be sure that you have a copy in case something goes wrong. I’m not sure about their specific steps to do so, but it should be something similar to the article that we have available on our site:

    Hi there,
Sort of a similar problem here.
My host provider lost a server and my WP blog as a consequence. And I had no backup.
But my database is still there, don’t ask me why or how.
So I only lost my WP files. I reinstalled WP and linked it to my database. And voila, my blog is back…
I had to delete and upload all media files to fully recover my posts.

BUT the links to my posts all point to the infamous 404.
Even the post header link goes 404.

How can I have WP update all the links so that they work correctly ?
    Thank you
