  • HI there, you can simply download the restore script from the XCloner Restore page and start a remote restore process as specified on that page, that will restore you all files.

I had a serious problem during a WP upgrade. After upgrading the 2013 theme the site broke and lost content and formatting to the public. Content was still there in the back end.

I had made an xcloner backup after the WP upgrade and before the theme upgrade so I wanted to restore the backup. I had updated xcloner in between.

xcloner showed me no backups. I copied the .tar, xcloner_main_ad561-2020-01-08.log, xcloner_restore.log and index.html to the new backup location and tried to process it. I now get a server error when I go to the site https://athletesworldwide.net/

I tried doing the restore from the xcloner_restore.php. It fails with the same server error. So now I have a down site and can not see how to restore it (although I am still, apparently logged in to the xcloner interface in the back end)

I’m at a complete loss on how to proceed.

You need to check your site error log, you should get some more details on the 500 error there.

If the backend is still active, please check the logs from xcloner backend as well, you might see the exact error there also.

If you manage to fix that, the restore process steps are detailed in the xcloner backend, restore page. The xcloner_restore.php script url needs to be pasted there as that’s the restore API end point.

I can’t access those server logs. The host (hostmonster) tells me it was a permissions issue which must be caused when the restore process starts to run. I’ll paste in the xcloner-restore.log. I also have the xcloner_main_ad561-2020-01-08.log but it is 10MB

Hostmonster got the broken site back (they said by disabling 2 plugins). I then tried to run the in plugin restore and things broke to the 500 error again. They could not get it back in the same way and had to escalate it to a higher support level.

They tell me they adjusted permissions and the site is back, but the theme problem still exists. I am now afraid that running the restore will cause the same issue. Is it likely that the new script has issues with the backup from an older version. I have restored from your plugin before with no such issues. But now I am concerned I may not really have a backup system.

Turns out I was not really in the back end after the server error. I went to another screen and was shut out by the 500 error.

    here is the log:

Can you detail if you do a full backup restore or only the wp-content/ folder?

You could also try and download the backup archive locally , extract the theme files and upload as needed.

I usually do a full backup excluding only the backup folder itself.

I tried both a full restore with the php file link method and a themes only restore.

Bot caused the same issue with the 500 error.
