How to restore my website when it’s down?

If you cannot regain access – for example due to the loss of files / data as a result of a security issue, you could follow these steps:

1. Download backups from wp-content / updraft folder
2. Install new WordPress instance
3. Install UpdraftPlus
4. Upload backups to wp-content / updraft folder on new instance
5. Click the Backup / Restore >> Existing backups >> Rescan local folder for new backup sets link
6. Click Restore next to the backup you want

If your backups were stored remotely (which is preferable and more secure) then you could simply connect UpdraftPlus to the same remote storage location as the original site and click the Backup / Restore >> Existing backups >> Rescan remote storage link and then click Restore.

So just to confirm. Are these two the only ways to restore a broken website?

Also, I was wondering if everything will be back to normal. Could this have a negative impact on SEO Google ranking or so? I wouldn’t like to have a negative impact because installing a new instance.

If you are unable to access the site in the scenario described previously then you would likely need to install a new instance and restore the backups.

If the restored site is an exact clone of the original (which it should be if its from a backup) with the same URLs, internal links, sitemap, mark-up and structure then it would have minimal / no impact on SEO. When the site is re-crawled the same content would be valid as the previous site.
