I have been using wp smush (free version).
However I am having two issues:

Despite smushing all the images in my galleries and slide shows are STILL pulling up the old file. ie: the original. If I view any images and look at the page code the image is still the original file and the file size is no different.

    a) So, the question is this. Assuming smush did not actually replace my original files (I hope it did not),,, then how are images supposed to be redirected to the new smushed file?

    b) IF smush did in fact replace my original files,, then is there any way to reverse this and get my original files back?

  • Hey @gtewks,

Despite smushing all the images in my galleries and slide shows are STILL pulling up the old file. ie: the original. If I view any images and look at the page code the image is still the original file and the file size is no different.

There could be two reason for it:
    1. These are probably using the full size image, which is skipped if large size ( Read: https://developer.www.ads-software.com/themes/functionality/featured-images-post-thumbnails/#image-sizes ) image is not created for the image.
    2. The images are being cached or you are using Photon/CDN, hence the optimised version is not served.

So, the question is this. Assuming smush did not actually replace my original files (I hope it did not),,, then how are images supposed to be redirected to the new smushed file?

As I mentioned above “These are probably using the full size image, which is skipped” so, for most of the images the original image would remain untouched, if the large size thumbnail is created for the image. And you can just run “Regenerate Thumbnails” plugin, to restore the other image sizes.

    b) IF smush did in fact replace my original files,, then is there any way to reverse this and get my original files back?

    Answered above

    Thanks, Umesh

I am no longer going to use this plugin because it is clear you are spamming your own support forum with endless fake positive reviews. I have unsubscribed and yet my inbox won’t stop getting endless fake reviews from this forum…. Somebody take me off this subscription.
