I have worked my way through most of the documentation and it seems there two ways to setup mailing: SMTP and not SMTP.

I have been working on this for several hours and finally managed to set up SMTP well enough to send a test email.

However, a friend of mine, who is more experienced, says that he never uses SMTP and doesn’t set up anything at all.

So I guess I have two questions:

    1) How to set up in default mode?
    2) How to send test email in default mode?

    Thanks!

Hi, actually there is always a mail server, even when you don’t configure an SMTP. A standard hosting space has a local SMTP to deliver email, and PHP uses it.

A local SMTP is much more quick, but most of the web server running even an SMTP are not configured as an SMTP server and are not kept in withelist to avoid spam problem due to the origin server.

So you can use or not an SMTP, it depends on your server.

To test the email sending process, use the diagnostic panel.

    Bye, Stefano.
