How to set post thumbnails conditionally?

    Hi, I’m attempting an import of posts where all posts have images to import, but only some need to have the first image set to the Featured Image. I attempted to make the first image blank to work around this, but it didn’t work. Wondering if there’s a simple way to achieve conditionally setting a thumbnail on some posts.

    If not I figure I could pass in a bit of metadata to flag which posts have featured images then hopefully remove them as post thumbail them with the pmxi_saved_post action… but hoping there may be simpler way.

    Update: I did actually figure out a fairly simple workaround utilizing ACF. I set up an image field in ACF with the field name _thumbnail_id and imported the image to that field rather than with the other images in the post.
