How to set Stock Qty for Variable Products correctly

Hi! I have read the documentation but could not found answer to a couple of questions around Stock mgmt for variable products:

1. How should the Stock Qty at the parent level be configured if you want to manage the stock at variation level? I’m assuming ‘Manage stock?’ unticked, correct?

2. What is the WooCommerce behaviour like, if the stock is managed at variation level (ticking ‘Manage Stock?’ and setting a value for the Stock Qty), but the shop manager decides to also configure the stock mgmt at the parent level? How will both ‘respected’? is one ignored or takes precedent over the other?
