• New website, theme twenty-sixteen.
    Can’t get comments box to appear.
    Settings/discussions is at “allow comments”
    Pages/Posts all set with Screen Option “allow comments”
    Individual posts also set as “allow comments”
    Tried deactivating plugins….still nowhere to enter comments.
    Have read about 3 dozen similar inquiries and tried everything suggested except for breaking into code. Problem seems to go back years and years. Any suggestions?

  • what is the permalink structure?

    it seems that even if there seems to be one post in your site, all gets redirected to the ‘blog’ page.

    Okay, go to ”All Posts” in your WordPress Dashboard
    Select All Posts by clicking on check box before ‘Title’ .
    Click ‘Edit’ .
    Locate ‘Comment’ and Change it to ”Allow.
    You are done.

    Sohail Khan:

    Okay thank you but there is no “Comments” on that screen

    There is “Screen Options” on the upper right, then checked off “Comments” and “Apply”….I have already tried that before, does nothing, still no place for visitors to leave comments.

    Any other suggestions?

    I studied the forums about this problem, it goes back many years for many, many users. Several members suggest breaking into template code to add this:

    <div id=”comments”>
    <?php comments_template(); ?>
    </div>

    however #1 I’m using the default template, nothing fancy, and it has a warning to NOT change code

    #2 I wouldn’t know where to add code (should be “after The Loop in your theme’s page.php.file” ….however I don’t know what that means)

    My husband figured it out in 2 seconds

    All Posts> Edit> APPLY…..NEW SCREEN>Comment>Allow

    I tried it a thousand times before and never got a new screen.
