How to show nickname if the first&lastname are empty?

    i am newbie with the wordpress and i have a question.
    i have install the simple facebook plugin and the twitterconnect plug in
    in my site. i want to show in a diffent place from the wpadmin bar the user name. i know the script to show the first name and the last name but when i log in my site with the twitter account in the database is only the nickname which is the twitter username. so i want to show the nickname of the user in case the first name and last name are empty.
    how can i do it?
