how to start

  • dear all

    i’ve downloaded the wp stuff to my pc (wp 4.3.1).

    at the same time i have an account with wordpress.com and actually linked my www address to it.

    however i still don’t get it whether i use wp.org just to get the design, tools etc and then i have to put everything into my wp.com?
    or do i somehow have to integrate wp.org into wp.com or reverse????

    AND i don’t get the nature of wp.com, they always talk about “blogs”.. i don’t wanna write blogs, i want to make a good site. Do i really need them and pay their yearly fee to do this and that or can i all do that on wp.org

  • WordPress.com and www.ads-software.com are completely different. WordPress.com offers free website. Although these websites are limited to what you can do. www.ads-software.com is the WordPress self hosted software. If you want to use the full WordPress software then you would need to get hosting and a domain name from a hosting company, and then install the WordPress software.

    I personally would highly recommend you get a domain name and hosting with a hosting company (Bluehost, GoDaddy, WP Engine, Dreamhost, Hostgator, etc.), download the WordPress on it, and then use that as your website. There is no reason why you should be using both WordPress.com and a self hosted www.ads-software.com website.

    Matthew is correct. You downloaded WordPress, but you need to install it to a web server. Once you sign up, they will have a one-click install process that makes things easy.

    Yes, don’t get turned off by blog. The yearly WordPress (ten years ago) was made for making blogs. Since then WordPress has moved into a full CMS and you can basically make anything. You still will find the blog term being thrown around though because lots of people use WordPress for blogs and also lots of the functions and files are named after blog stuff.

    I don’t know if it’s the right place to ask my question, but I don’t have a better idea.
    So, I have a wordpress.com website (a blog) which I would like to move to a www.ads-software.com host with easyphp, so I can use plugins and everything. I downloaded them and everything, but I stopped at a point.
    I imported the content from my blog to the new page, and I stucked.
    So, first of all, I cannot log in to the new site. I used the same username with a different password and I made myself the author after importing the content. Now I log in at 127.0.0.1/wp-login.php and it leads me to the wp.com log in page.

    Basically, although I don’t understand the whole logging in thing, my question is how the heck do I create a site where I can import my existing content and use plugins???
