When I go and change the auto new post email, it sends it out to everyone when I save it. It made for an embarrassing moment because there wasn’t a new post. Now I need to modify it again, but I need to know how to do it and activate it without sending it out. Thanks!

  • Hi there @calebellis,

    Thanks for reaching out!

Can you please clarify if this is an immediate Post Notification email you’re sending or a scheduled one? Was it sent with no posts at all?

I would like to try to replicate it on my test site so please share as many details and screenshots as possible.

    Cheers!

@treibalen This is an immediate post notification. Okay, so I have an automatic post notification set up: https://ibb.co/X2Df9gZ
This is what the email looks like: https://ibb.co/FWFW4w5
And this is ‘latest post’ box that MailPoet has for emails: https://ibb.co/cx67xSX
(Also, if you know a way to make that latest post widget match the color of my email so it’s not white, let me know!)
The problem is when I go and edit this automatic post notification. Let’s say I go and edit something, and then click ‘next’. It will take me to this page: https://ibb.co/8zXrgjX

Then I click ‘activate’ and it sends it out to everyone! There wasn’t a new post, I was just modifying the automatic post notification. So how can I not have it send? Something I did was to go back and turn the whole thing off in ‘status’, but I still have to manually turn it back on. (And then it will send it!) This probably wouldn’t affect too many people, but I set my posts to publish at a scheduled time, usually when I’m not there. So, right now, I have to wait until after the post is published, then active the post notification. Sorry, I know this was long, but I hope it helps!

    Hi there @calebellis,

Thanks for such a detailed description of the issue!

I tested the following scenario on my test site:

    – I have an existing Post Notification email that is set to be sent immediately.
    – I edited it to add a new text block.
    – I clicked Next and then Activate.
    – No new emails were sent out because there were no new posts on my site since the last time when this Post Notification email was sent.

So I couldn’t replicate the same behaviour you see, for some reason. Do you see the email that was sent falsely in the original Post Notification email history (here: https://d.pr/i/HmnNGF)? Do you see that it doesn’t have any Post content when you Preview it?

Which MailPoet version are you using? What edits are you doing to the email?

Also, can you please create a new Post Notification email with just you as a recipient, disable all other Post Notification emails, and test the same behaviour?

Lastly, you don’t have to click Activate when you need to make changes to your email. Clicking Save here is enough: https://d.pr/i/W0yKZ3.

    Cheers!

    Hi there @calebellis,

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – we’ll be here if and/or when you are ready to continue.
