How to test email posting?

I have set up an email address for the sole purpose of posting blog updates. The email address is hosted as part of my domain package.

I have filled out the correct settings in the WordPress Options/Writing section…and had my network admin double check that they are correct.

I’ve sent a post to the address, but in the last hour it has not been updated to the site.

How often does wordpress check the inbox? How can I ‘test’ to make sure it’s working?
