How to translate?

  • I’m looking for a really simple sharing plugin, with minimum overhead and effortless GDPR compliance, and Shared Counts (with no count source), seems to do the trick.

    However, I’d like to translate the hover tips and texts when clicking the sharing icons -how do I do that best?

    I know how to use Loco Translate, should Shared Counts support .po/.mo file translation.

    It seems I’ve probably have to add a filter. I’m comfortable with the Code Snippets plugin for adding code to functions.php, but unsure of the filtering code itself. I’m specifically trying to edit the labels for the email dialog, and and the hover over icons text.

    Could you post a sample of the filtering code needed in functions.php for translations?

    Sure!

    So the plugin should be 100% (or near) translation ready.

    That means you can submit a translation through translate.www.ads-software.com ??

    – Head over to https://translate.www.ads-software.com/projects/wp-plugins/shared-counts
    – Select your language
    – Start translating
    – After that your translation will go into Waiting status (not live yet)
    – An editor of that language will accept them
    – Translations go live and are rolled out automagically

    Alternately, if you just want to adjust a few strings, there should be filters that can accomodate those adjustments. If you can provide us a screenshot of two regarding what specifically you’re looking to change, we can provide an example.

    Woop woop! That’s awesome!

    Although I’m happy to contribute, it really only makes sense (to me) to translate the 17 front-end strings, instead of the complete 135 strings used on the backend, so that’s what I did, using Loco Translate, and I was done in 7 minutes.

    You missed ONE string.. The “Share via Email” text when hovering over the mail envelope, is not found in the language files.

    If front-end translations are any good, I’d gladly share them on translate.www.ads-software.com – but I understand if there is an only complete translation policy.

    Thanks for finding that missing string! I’ve updated it on the develop branch ( https://github.com/jaredatch/Shared-Counts/commit/6a324e703f7d9b5a7821a9a82597e93ffae6d35b ) so the next release of the plugin will include that.
