    Hi,

My site’s default language is English, and this is the only language on my site. Now I want to change the default language to Chinese, and remove English.

My question is how should I translate the existing English content into Chinese? When I visit my site xxx.com (instead of xxx.com/zh), I want it to show Chinese only.

    Thanks in advance,

    Hello there,

Thank you for letting us know about your problem!

Actually, our plugin doesn`t work like that.

If you want to have Chinese as the default language, we recommend having the content written in Chinese and not in English so the translation can work correctly.

Also, changing the default language will invalidate existing translations. We can’t keep them because the translations are directional and you’ll also need to change ALL your content directly in the new language.

The default language is the language your content was written in.

If you want another language to be the first language, then simply enable:

    * Use TranslatePress -> Settings -> Subdirectory for default language -> Yes
    * Reorder the languages

    Kind Regards,

    Hi,

I set English as the default language now, and set Subdirectory for default language -> Yes.
Also Reorder the languages, and set Chinese as the no.1 language. But the site address is xxx.com/zh now, how to change it to xxx.com? I Want to remove the “zh” from the site url(Chinese language).

    Hello there,

The Chinese language remains a secondary language and not a default one.

What I recommended to you was to have Chinese as the first language of your website and not the default one.

To remove the language slug from the URL you have to set Chinese as the default language which will lead you to lose the actual translations you`ll need to do it again and you have to disable the “Use subdirectory for the default language” feature.

Keep in mind that when you change the default language and set another one, we recommend writing your content in the default language you choose.

    Kind Regards,
