How to translate Read More buttons
-
I want to transalte the buttons to nrowegian. How can I do this?

Hi lmtoy – the “Read More” string in Goran is coming from the parent theme, Edin.
The catch is that string hasn’t yet been translated into Norwegian, as you can see here:
https://translate.wordpress.com/projects/wpcom/themes/edin/nn/default
You can help round out the translation by logging in with a WordPress.com account and adding translations, If you let me know when you’re done I can see about getting a Norwegian translator to validate them, which will help all other users of Edin and Goran. You’ll then be able to download and use the new .mo Norwegian language file from GlotPress.
Alternatively, you can also:
– download the .po file from the bottom left
– edit the file to add your translations in a .po editor
– convert the file to .mo (machine object) version, which is what WordPress knows how to readAt this point the steps are the same whether you’ve translated outside of GlotPress or within:
– rename the downloaded .mo file to edin-nb-NO.mo on your hard drive.
– upload the file to your site in this spot in your WordPress install:
/wp-content/languages/themes/edin-nb-NO.moIf you’d also like the additional theme strings specific to the Goran child theme – these are already translated into Norwegian – you can download the .mo file from the bottom left here:
https://translate.wordpress.com/projects/wpcom/themes/goran/no/default
– rename the downloaded .mo file to goran-nb-NO.mo on your hard drive.
– upload the file to your site in this spot in your WordPress install:
/wp-content/languages/themes/goran-nb-NO.mo.I know there are a lot of steps. Let me know if you have any questions!
I noticed your language locale is
nb_NO
– is that the Norwegian Nynorsk variant? The Norwegian (bokm?l) variant for Edin and Goran are also available here if those are the right ones:
https://translate.wordpress.com/projects/wpcom/themes/edin/no/default
https://translate.wordpress.com/projects/wpcom/themes/goran/no/default
Hi,
I have added translations. ??
Could you push them through? I guess then there will be an updated version of Goran theme? My settings show Norwegian (bokm?l) … not Norwegian Nynorsk. So I think nb_NO = Norwegian Bokm?l – Norway
https://translate.wordpress.com/projects/wpcom/themes/edin/no/default?page=2I see Read more is already translated.. but I added a better translation ??
Thanks for adding those, lmtoy. I’ll let you know once they’ve been validated and you’ll be able to download the file directly from GlotPress instead of having to wait for the next release of the theme.
lmtoy – your translations have been validated and you can now download the .mo file from the Export link at the bottom left in GlotPress and proceed with the steps starting from:
– rename the downloaded .mo file to edin-nb-NO.mo on your hard drive.
How come there is not a new release of theme? How come I have to do this manually?
Just wondering. As I don’t know GlotPress
Where do I find the page to download these files on GlotPress?… I cannot find it. I tried installing GlotPress plugin but this failed with fatal error
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class GP_Locale in /home/content/n3pnexwpnas01_data03/34/3143734/html/wp-content/plugins/glotpress/locales/locales.php on line 2How come there is not a new release of theme? How come I have to do this manually?
We don’t release new theme versions only for language files.
Where do I find the page to download these files on GlotPress?… I cannot find it.
I linked the Edin and Goran pages in GlotPress above – there’s no need to install anything.
Here are the exact steps to follow – please let me know if you get stuck anywhere.
1. Open both these pages:
Edin – https://translate.wordpress.com/projects/wpcom/themes/edin/no/default
Goran – https://translate.wordpress.com/projects/wpcom/themes/goran/no/default
2. On both of the above two pages, from the dropdown menu at the bottom left, choose the .mo file format option, and click Export to download the Norwegian translation file and save it on your hard drive.

3. On your hard drive, rename the files:
– edin-nb-NO.mo
– goran-nb-NO.mo4. Upload both file to your site in this spot in your WordPress install:
/wp-content/languages/themes/edin-nb-NO.mo
/wp-content/languages/themes/goran-nb-NO.moLet me know how it goes.
I installed Loco Translator plugin. Which allows me to edit the .mo files… and in there the Read More text is translated to Norwegian. But the buttons are still not showing norwegian text.
I wonder if these buttons are indeed translate-ready? In which code file are they located?
Actually I think I found it in content-grid.php
printf( __( 'Read more %s', 'edin' )
And it does look like it should translate… but it does not. So what is wrong?
@lmtoy: Were you able to figure this out? I can see “Les Mor” in place of “Read More” when visiting 3pinstituttet.no.
If you’re still seeing the English text, try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.
Let us know if you have any further questions, also.
hmm… Unsure what helped in the end. I used the Loco Translator and the Read More text was already translated. Then I checked FTP and saw that under the path you specified:
There was not theme language files for Edin or Goran. They are located in another folder path… so I uploaded the files as you wrote.
But nothing changes immediately.. but now a few hours later.. I see that the changes now are there. Does all languages files have to be places in this location: /wp-content/languages/themes/
Hm, it may have been a caching issue that resulted in the delay. Either way, I’m happy that the correct translation is now displaying! ??
You’re right that both the translations for Edin and Goran should be uploaded to /wp-content/languages/themes/.
If you have any further questions then please don’t hesitate to start another thread on these forums.
