I have only recently noticed that autocorrect is operating when I type a post – I think it has only happened recently. When I mistype a word, a correction appears in a blue box below the text, and if I don’t notice it in time, it makes an often poorly chosen correction.

It is very annoying because it seems to get corrections wrong quite often, and then they sit in the text unmarked and sometimes unnoticed until much later, whereas before the autocorrect, it was easy to notice a red line under the doubtful text, and easy to correct.

I would love to turn this annoying feature off, but I have found no way to do so. Does anyone know a way please?

Mizagorn, on a previous thread proposed amending line 33 of the wp-includes/formatting.php file to read “false” rather than “true”, suggesting this would bypass the autocorrect feature. It worked for someone else, but not for me, but I don’t know why.

Can anyone help me please? Is anyone else having the same problem?

  • Do you think the autocorrect could be coming from a plugin. Try disabling all your plugins. If your autocorrect goes away, turn on the plugins one at a time until you find the one providing autocorrect.

Disabling your plugins should not cause you to lose any of the plugin options you have already set.

Hi, I don’t think so. I have 9 plugins I don’t think any of them would have autocorrect, I haven’t added any recently, and I don’t recall upgrading any recently. The ones I have activated are:

    BackUpWordPress
    Content Aware Sidebars
    Facebook LIkes You
    Google XML Sitemaps
    Simple Comment Editing
    Subscribe2
    Subscribe to Comments
    Tako Movable Comments
    WP Captcha Free

Further, I notice the autocorrect happening on this forum, where I don’t recall it before. So I assumed it was a new WordPress feature.

The only other thing I can think of is that I recently upgraded my Mac Os from 10.6 to 10.8, which may have allowed a WP feature that was there all along but wouldn’t run under OS 10.6. But I can’t really think that is correct.

Do you or others get this autocorrect happening on this forum? Is it new?

Nope. No auto correct here for me. Must be coming from your workstation.

I don’t understand. How can it be local to me? It’s not happening in any other software, just WordPress.

Is anyone else experiencing what I’m experiencing?

Hello again, yes you were right and I have been wasting people’s time here and wrongly blaming WordPress (I’m sorry WP). An autocorrect feature WAS introduced into Mac OS 10.8, much to my surprise. The good thing is I can turn it off.

    Thanks for your trouble.

I’m glad you solved the mystery.
