How to turn off trackback feature?

I removed the checkmark in the box labeled – Allow link notifications from other Weblogs (pingbacks and trackbacks), but several weeks later I am still getting trackback spam. Is there some other way to completely disallow trackbacks? I though this turned it off but I must be missing something.
