Nevermind, my apologies, it turns out it is Siteground, they have implemented an AI antibot system on websites using Siteground for WordPress hosting: https://www.siteground.co.uk/kb/seeing-captcha-website/

I’ve marked this issue as resolved as I am talking to them directly.

I have had this issue so many times whilst hosting with Siteground – their AI checker is severely flawed and causes problems with the navigation, especially when I use an incognito window. When it challenges them, it then redirects to the home page – not to the page the user was trying to get to.

I ask them to turn it off or I will leave SiteGround – they need to ask for your consent to intercept and change your website response to your users. You have no idea how many visitors around the world you have lost because of this.
