I’ve actually created a more precise solution for this “issue” in my support forums (though it is for my other theme, Modern, it works for Auberge too). The solution I’ve linked to will remove the image link on the single post page, which is harmless.

The intended use of the featured image link on single post page was to show the bigger image to your visitors using a lightbox plugin such as great WP Featherlight plugin ( https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-featherlight/ ).

Good point about the lightbox. I frequently do that, too, and am actually doing that with the thumbnails on another page.
