I have created a password-protected Members Only page on our website, where members can download sensitive documents. However, a Google search for a document name allows anyone to access the document. I understand that DOWNLOAD MONITOR allows documents to be protected so only members can access them. Is this correct? If so, how do I use it?

The support documentation shows how to add a file, but the file/document must first be uploaded to the website as media. Surely this defeats the objective of keeping it private.

If I select Downloads->Add New->Add File->Upload File I can add an existing document, then I can tag it as Members Only and Private, but it can still be downloaded from a Google search.

  • Hello,

I apologize for the delay in replying.

To make a download protected, instead of making it private, please upload the file using our plugin. If you have uploaded a file using the “Media” menu then the file will not be protected.

I hope that answers your query. Let us know if you have any further questions.

I must be missing something. If I select Downloads from the left-hand menu I can’t see an option to upload media. Next to the heading Downloads there is a button to Add New, but the only option from there is to Add Media, which accessed media that has already been uploaded.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Hey rousea,

When you edit or create a new download, in the “Downloadable File/Versions” section you should find a button to “Add File”. Please check https://www.dropbox.com/s/bt3t891u1igoaf0/Screenshot%202018-06-19%2016.55.51.png?dl=0
