• I have created my own template called Person with a specific layout and placeholder text so that I can create different pages based on it, each with different content but the same layout.

    After that I created a new page and selected my self-made Person template as the template for the page.

    To my surprise, the layout of my selected Person template does not appear on the page. What did I do wrong?

  • The term “template” has a specific meaning in WordPress, and it’s not what you think it is.

    Think of a WordPress Template as the outer layout for the page. Inside this outer layout or Template, the content of the individual post is placed.

    In other words, a WordPress Template is a page layout template, not a content template to be customized for individual posts.

    It sounds like what you need is a Block Pattern (previously Reusable Blocks), and not a Template.

    @gappiah Thanks for your explanation.

    1. What exactly is defined in a Template or the outer layout for a page?
    2. Is it possible to convert my Person template into a Block Pattern?
