How to use aLinks ?

I have tried using aLinks- keyed in my keyphrases etc. to link to my articles but it doesn’t seem to work. Where do these keyphrases link to ? From search engines or from the search function on the blog itself ? If the latter, then keying in a word/phrase into the “Search” box will link to the article you’re looking for, even WITHOUT going through aLinks. So will someone please explain how aLinks works ? Thanks.
