How to use Amazon Scratchpad

    My PA-API is not working. Always shows “Disconnected” and “Too many requests”, even after so many months. I have my Associate ID, Access Key and Secret Key all set up properly and I already have multiple sales in both Amazon USA and Amazon India.

    Please provide details about how to use Amazon Scratchpad. I need info about ItemIds. Where do I get these?

    Hi,

    1. Visit Product Advertising API 5.0 Scratchpad (amazon.com)
    2. Choose SearchItems (Select Operation -> Item -> SearchItems)
    3. Choose your locale in the MarketPlace field (Common parameters -> MarketPlace)
    4. Fill the necessary fields such as Partner Tag (Associates tag), Access Key, Secret Key in the same section, Common parameters
    5. Type an arbitrary search keyword such ass “WordPress” in the Keywords field (SearchItems -> Request parameters -> Keywords)
    6. Check Select All in the Resources field
    7. Click Run request

    Make sure you don’t see errors in the response there.

    You can give ASINs to the ItemIds field but just use the SerchItems operation for tests rather than GetItems so that you don’t have to look up ASINs. An ASIN is a product identifier that Amazon uses, by the way.

    Thanks for your prompt response.

    Unfortunately, the results are the same as usual from both USA and India markets:

    Error! TooManyRequests
    The request was denied due to request throttling. Please verify the number of requests made per second to the Amazon Product Advertising API.

    Obviously, this is not something that we can change from our end. Is there some other way?

    That means your PA-API keys are not valid. Most likely, you haven’t made any actual referrals in the last 30 days yet, which they require for you to be eligible to use their API. As ScratchPad is their official test tool, for more details, please turn to the support of Amazon Associates.

    My latest PA-API keys were generated on 18-Feb-2024 (8 days ago). My Amazon USA “Earnings Report” shows 47 clicks in the last 7 days (no sales). Do I need to have sales for my PA-API keys to be valid?

    Yes, you need to make actual referrals to use PA-API. For more details, please turn to Amazon Associates support.
