• The heading on my home page is ‘Simple, effective marketing for small businesses’ but this heading is also being used in the site map at the bottom of the page.

Can someone tell me how I can change the site map so it says ‘Home’ but does not change the heading on my home page to ‘Home’ – I still want this to be called ‘Simple, effective marketing for small businesses’

I know if I change the page title to ‘Home’ then it solves the site map problem but then it’ll also say ‘Home’ as the heading to my main page which I don’t want.

Please see web address for reference: https://almanacmarketing.com/

  • Do you plan on adding many more pages to your site? Right now, the site map just echoes the links across the top of the page, so I would argue that you really don’t need the Site Map. It’s a little confusing.

If you’re only going to have these pages but want to keep the Site Map, you could just create it as a Text Widget – you will have to code it in html, though. Kind of a hack but a quick fix.

But neither of these really answer your question. If you want to stick with the Site Map, this might be helpful: https://en.support.wordpress.com/sitemaps/.

@emily05mle: Can you please point people towards resources on wordpress.org and not wordpress.com. The latter will just create confusion for many users as .com sites has built-in features that self-hosted sites lack.

@esmi: This user appears to be on wordpress.com, so I thought .com resources would be more helpful. Thoughts?

If you suspect that a poster is actually running a wp.com site, just ask them outright to confirm if they are self-hosted or using wordpress.com. If it is the latter, point them to https://en.forums.wordpress.com/

We try to keep .org and .com as separate & distinct as possible – otherwise people get really confused. If you haven’t looked at it already, there’s a support handbook at https://make.www.ads-software.com/support/handbook/ which tries to cover things like this. You may find it has some useful tips etc. ??

Thanks for the advice @emily05mle I do want to add more pages (testimonials etc) but I think I’ll just hire someone who knows what they’re doing to make the final tweaks on my website. I have no coding knowledge and I don’t want to break anything by mistake ??
