how to use standard categories for custom posts.

We have standard categories and sub categories which we use to organize our standard wodpress posts. These categories are also used as menus in the WordPress website. All posts are added in at least one category or sub category.
We have now developed a custom wodpress post type with taxonomy. Now we would like to add the new custom wordpress posts into the standard wordpress categories and sub categories.Is there anyway to use the standard categories and sub categories for custom posts so they we can open them from the menus?

In your CPT definition in register_post_types, set
taxonomies => array( 'category' ),see the example at https://developer.www.ads-software.com/reference/functions/register_post_type/#comment-3847
