How to use the Video format

  • Hello,

    I’m trying to embed a video so that it shows up on the main posts page. So far with no luck.

    I’ve tried adding it from my media file. No luck
    I’ve tried using the embed code from Youtube. No luck
    I’ve tried post JUST the Youtube URL. No luck
    I’ve tried using the embed video button, added Youtube link. No luck.

    To be clear the video shows when viewing the topic itself, just not when on the main page with all the other posts.

    And yes I’ve selected the video format. So far this is really annoying and it seems needlessly complicated. There is NO DOCUMENTATION WITH THE THEME. I must be missing SOMETHING.

  • Hi, I don’t think this is specifically an Icy theme issue, its more a WordPress issue, so you might try Googling “wordpress video embed”. The top hit says:

    “All you need to do to embed something into a post or page is to post the URL to it into your content area. Make sure that the URL is on its own line and not hyperlinked (clickable when viewing the post). For example:

    Check out this cool video:



That was a cool video.

    WordPress will automatically turn that into a YouTube embed when the post is viewed.”

    Works for me. There’s loads more to read about embeding videos in WordPress.

    That does work. But the Icy theme is capable of showing the video from the main Blog page, so you don’t have to view the post to watch the video.

    As you can see on the page, the video shows on the main blog list. I’ve tried everything but cannot get the video to show.

    I have a theory. Perhaps I need to set the pages to show full posts instead of excerpts.
