How to vary teaser columns by category or CPT?

Hi,
I would like to display 3 teaser columns on the my site’s blog page, yet in 4 columns on the custom post type staff page.
According to the https://github.com/billerickson/genesis-grid/wiki page, modifications should be possible based up on the post-type. But what arguments would I use?
The code
$args['columns'] = 4;doesn’t work.Any ideas?
