Hi. I became the admin of a site in 2013 and some time last year set it up to automatically share all new posts on Facebook and Twitter. Now we want to discontinue that system, but I cannot find where to do so.

One discussion said to click the “my sites” link on the dashboard, but my dashboard does not have a “my sites” link. Others referenced useful plugins, but there are no plugins that appear to be involved (the only plugins installed are Akismet, WP views, Gravity Forms, types).
We pay for a domain name if that matters.
I would very much appreciate some help on this.

  • Hi Katiekin,

Autosharing on Facebook and Twitter is usually achieved with a plugin. If as you say have no plugins installed that do this it is possible that:

    1. This functionality has been coded into the theme
    2. You are using an external service like ifttt.comor zapier.com that tracks the site and shares the new posts.

What theme are you using? Does it have an options page in the admin panel? If it does, see if there is an option for sharing to social media enabled.

    Thanks for responding!
The theme I am using is Twenty Ten and I cannot see an options page in the admin panel – all that is there is the following:

      site identity
      colors
      header image
      background image
      menus
      widgets
      static front page

I have no memory of signing up for a an external service …

And if you go to Plugins, these are the only plugins installed?

    • Akismet
    • Gravity Forms
    • Types
    • WP views

yes, those are the only ones installed … I worry that I am missing something ridiculously simple, but I really don’t know where to look. Should I be able to see a “my sites” tab in the dashboard or is that only for some sites (i.e. either .org or .com)?

Since you have plugins installed, it means you have a self-hosted WordPress site (.org), not WordPress.com
You would see “My Sites” if you had a multisite WordPress installation.

Can you share the link to your site?

From your twitter feed I gather that this service is auto-sharing the new posts from your site: https://twitterfeed.com/ You will need to login to the service and turn it off.

I assume that a similar service is used for Facebook. I suggest logging in to Facebook and look under “Apps” in the “Settings” to find which service/app has been given permission to post to the page’s wall and remove it.

It looks like Twitterfeed was sending both to Facebook and Twitter. I have turned of the feed and can go have dinner.
THANK YOU so very, very much!
