[HOWTO] Linking MP3 file to an icon?

I suspect this is pretty easy, but I would like to link an image (of an audio icon) to an MP3 file such that when the user clicks the image, the MP3 plays – without changing the page.

Here’s an example: https://markcain.com/hebrew.html

In this example, clicking on the audio icon plays a recording of the Hebrew.

Why not use one of the standard audio players? Well, the various audio players I’ve tried are formatted for LTR languages like English (i.e., the play icon points LEFT). Hence, my search for a way to link an RTL audio icon (that points RIGHT) to an MP3 file.
