i would like to shorten the “recent post widget” excerpts to maybe 200 characters + the link “read more”

In your post edit page you can instert a “read more” tag where you want the excerpt to stop. Or you can use a custom excerpt. Just make sure Excerpt is selected from the screen options tab on the top right of the edit post page.

Thanks, it works with the excerpt option. But it does not work with the <!–more–> tag :/

And do you know a tip to have automatically post’s excerpts to 200 characters, without using the excerpt option ?

Premium Theme has built in options for adjusting the default post excerpt length. In free you can use a child theme and override the template code to adjust the post excerpt length or set manually with the custom excerpt box.
