    As I would like to understand more about HPOS, I wonder why there is operational data table there? Why can those information not be merged to the order metadata table?

    The reason operational data is kept in a separate table from order metadata is to optimize system performance and efficiency. Merging these types of data into a single table can slow down the system, affect data integrity, and make maintenance more challenging.
