I wanted my site address to be different to my wordpress address as per settings >> general in dashboard. I can’t find the .htaccess file. I usually use fireFTP in firefox but downloaded Filezilla and checked so that hidden files were shown. I searched for the file also using filezilla but it wasn’t showing in the folder where I have placed my wordpress files. Can someone direct me to the .htaccess file please? Thanks WD

  • It’s a hidden file in Unix (anything starting with a ‘.’ is considered to be hidden) so you probably have to chagne your FTP programs settings to show hidden files.

I would actually suggest that you don’t do what you’re trying to. The main issue is that Wordpres uses the value in it’s site setting to determine where all of it’s permalinks go to, so if you have that set as something different to your actual URL you’ll just keep on getting links pointing away from your site, and that’s a really bad thing to do.
