The site was updated recently. Yesterday I realized the pages were loading really slowly, if at all. Blog pages are typically loading fine. Tested the plugins with no improvement. Did test another previous theme, but didn’t seem to get improvement either. But later, after hours speaking with HG, a twenty fourteen theme avoided all the issues.

The HG tech suggested that the problem seems to be with the theme and the .htaccess settings. Suggested updating.

The details (above) begin to extend beyond my knowledge area. Does anyone have any suggestions for reviewing and updating the .htaccess settings?

    Thanks!

Please note, I am using an ‘under construction’ plugin (added after the site problems surfaced) which effects numbers on pingdom (if another test is ran). The numbers viewed threw the links above are from when the ‘under construction’ page is not activated.

Taking a deeper dive into the cpanel: The only information in the .htaccess file is

    # Use PHP56 AddHandler application/x-httpd-php56 .php

The only references (so far) to handlers in the cpanel are the following:

The only handler reference I could find in the cpanel: System Apache Handlers
    HandlerExtension(s)
    cgi-script
    .cgi .pl .plx .ppl .perl
    server-parsed
    .shtml

deactivated all plugins. Then back one by one. Didn’t make a difference. Considered the pingdom info on line1. Took yoast social sharing off all pages; at the moment (for 15 min now) the pages all refresh as they should. Might be fixed, but have had this issue return. TBD

Everything now back up and running. Was potentially a yoast update. Based on speed tests identified issues pertaining to social sharing. Removed option from pages, but not blogs.
Have one L hand widget not showing (#2, 3, 4 are showing); so still need to fix that.

    Hi,

As I said over email, the theme has nothing to do with your .htaccess file.
