When I set my htaccess file permission to 644 the prevent direct access checkbox does not appear in the media library and there is a message that says my htaccess file is not writable – when I change the file permissions to 646 the plugin works as intended.

What do I need to do so that I can get the program to run under the 644 file permissions?

    Hello @joejmjwebsitedesigncom,

Can you please let us know what the owner/group of your htaccess file is?
(You can use ls -l .htaccess command on Linux to check its owner/group.)

If it is something your web server can access, such as www-data, our plugin should work under the 644 file permission too.
