htaccess file permissions

  • Currently, I have my .htaccess in root folder file permissions set to 644…
    But I am now getting this message in WP backend…
    Plugin Leverage Browser Caching: htaccess file is not readable or writable. Please change the permission of htaccess file.

    Now when I change the permission only to 775 of .htaccess file the error goes

    Ieadlly the .htaccess file should have 644 permissions right?
