Htaccess Secure Files garbles protected MP3 files

I installed htaccess secure files with no problem and have successfully secured PDF files. I just tried securing some MP3’s, however, and as soon as the files were saved as secure they became a short garbled mess when played. Alternatively, some secured MP3’s simply never load at all. Any idea what might be causing this problem?
