HTML in subtitle?

Is it possible to have HTML in the subtitle? For instance, I want to make sure that a subtitle with a date doesn’t have the date break up between lines. I’ve tried to include <nobr>Sept 19, 2016</nobr>. But it keeps stripping out the <nobr> elements.
