You mean you see such error in your WordPress site logs? Is it really for /apple-touch-icon (strange…) or /apple-touch-icon.png (very likely)?

Some devices, in particular iPhone and iPad (but not only…) are looking for this URL, whatever an actual Apple Touch icon exists elsewhere. Although this is has no real impact, this is annoying and it is a good thing to get rid of this small issue.

The plugin does its best to map an icon to the URL /apple-touch-icon.png, so this URL actually works. However, this does not always work, depending on your WordPress environment. First, permalinks must be enabled. Then, this feature can be disabled for a number of reasons. One of them is the presence of some security plugins. Some of them prevent the other plugins from re-writing URLs.

I have permalinks enabled. How do I disable the apple touch feature so these errors resolve?

Also, your image file path mapping isn’t correct. It’s looking for numerous versions of this png. Such as /apple-touch-icon-152×152 (and numerous other dimensions which is rather annoying).

How do i disable this? The only solution I can see is to create and upload about 7 different image dimensions with that filename schema. That’s far from efficient.

So we are talking about error entries on ‘apple-touch-icon’ in the logs, right? You cannot “disable” the apple touch icon: some clients request them without notice. Same for /favicon.ico, the other huge classic.

I don’t understand you last comment: what do you mean by “path mapping is not correct”? Could you give me the URL of your site for review? If you don’t want to disclose it here, you can mail it to me at [email protected]

Sure there are many files. There are here for various reasons. More about this here: https://realfavicongenerator.net/faq#why_so_many_files
