Hi @kikanirita – I haven’t been able to replicate the issue so far with only the Classic Editor plugin active, as you can see here:

Edit Page here is a page title an ampersand Self hosted Test WordPress

Could you please provide the following information to help us better understand how to replicate the issue:

    • What version of WordPress are you using?
    • Is the issue present with all your plugins temporarily deactivated, except Classic Editor? You can use the Health Check plugin’s troubleshooting mode for this, which will not change your live site – https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/ If the problem goes away, reactivate your plugins one by one (while still in troubleshooting mode) to find the culprit.

    Hi @zoonini ,

I am using WordPress Version 6.1.1 with PHP 8.0.0.

I am getting this issue when i create post from front-side of my side. The title which is with “&” sign is stored as “&” in database.

So, when i edit that post from adminside with classic editor then the title show me “&” instead of “&”.

If i deactivate classic editor and edit post with gootenburg then will show me “&”.

    Thank you.

Hi @kikanirita – thanks for the additional details.

Could you please clarify in detail what you mean by this:

I am getting this issue when i create post from front-side of my side.

Please list out the exact steps you’re taking to create posts from the front end of your site so I can try to replicate, as I’m not sure what you mean. Thanks!

    Hi @zoonini ,

Let me explain you step wise :

I had create one form through which user can also create post from front-end side(i mean that guest user also create post from the site).

then I am create one post as a guest user and adding the post title “Information & Technology”, and then i am viewing that post, it is looking perfect means i can see the title “Information & Technology”.

Now, i am loggedin in as a administrator in site and try to edit that post from the admin panel- edit post page.

Here i can see that the event title must be “Information & Technology” but i can see the title is “Information & Technology”.

Thanks for explaining your custom front-end posting process.

So just to be 100% clear, the ampersand character & always looks fine to the reader, is that right? It’s only on the admin/dashboard side that it’s visible as an HTML entity like this & – correct?

If that’s the case, this might be an acceptable trade-off, since the Classic Editor is really only designed to work in the WP Admin dashboard. ??

    Hi @zoonini ,

So, can we expect an update for classic editor with scenario fixed. Will you make classic editor to handle this type of special characters visible correctly at admin-side?

Hi @kikanirita – before I loop in the plugin’s developers, could you please respond to this question I asked earlier? Thanks!

    Hi @zoonini ,

Yes, it is right that i am facing this issue only on the WP admin/dashboard side.

    Thanks for confirming.

Given that you’ve set up a custom front-end posting implementation on your site, I don’t know if this is something the developers would be wanting to modify this plugin to accommodate or not. I will loop in @azaozz for his input.

    Thanks @zoonini for the ping.

@kikanirita WordPress allows admin and editor users to post “unfiltered html”, in post content and also in post titles (you can test this by typing some HTML in the title field in the classic editor).

For that reason all HTML is also shown in the title field in the editor in wp-admin. Depending on what escaping is used for the front-end posting form, <, >, and " will probably also be shown as entities in wp-admin for administrator and editor level users. This is the expected behaviour and cannot be changed.
