• I need to be able to access the HTML code of various WP Pages I’ve created.

This used to be simple… change from “Visual” to “HTML” tab in my editor from my dashboard.

Happy to take a screenshot to prove I’m not crazy but I literally do NOT have the “Visual” and “HTML” tabs.

I’m running a 2.7.1 WP blog, simple modified Renoville theme and viewing all this in Firefox 3.0.11

My theories of what could be the problem…
    – WP 2.7.1 doesn’t include Visual/HTML tabs anymore? Does 2.8.1?
    – this is a firefox problem? (doubt it… been using FF for a while and always had the HTML tabs in the past)
    – the Renoville or minor customizations have something to do with this? That doesn’t make sense as a theme shouldn’t effect the admin/dashboard of WP

Any help greatly appreciated. Happy to whip over a few USD via PayPal for a helpful answer.

A link to the site? So you think it’s site specific? I would have imagined that since the HTML tab is a function of the editor, which is a function of WP, that this should be a general WP question.

I’ve eliminated the browser as a problem … as I’ve now tested it in multiple browsers.

I don’t see how the theme can be the problem seeing as the theme doesn’t control WP’s editor.

So this is either a general WP 2.7.1 problem or something wasn’t setup/installed right with WP specifically.

I can be reached at info AT 27am DOT com.

    A link to the site?

Yes…it’s always easier to troubleshoot a problem if you can actually see the site. Providing a link to the site can’t hurt and who knows, it may even help.

So you think it’s site specific?

Like you, I don’t know what the problem is, but I do know it’s not WP specific. If I had to guess, which is all I’m doing right now, I would guess you’re missing some wp files or have some incomplete/corrupt files.

Now that people have a way to contact you and posted to wp-pro, I’m sure you will get offers of help.

    hi

Yes the visual/html tabs are still part of WP 2.8.1

Do you have another admin user set up in WP? If so log out of the present user and log in as the other. (If you only have one admin user, create a new second user with admin privileges and log in as the new user)

I’ve seen cases where some sort of corruption occurs in the editor settings for a user. If you see the missing tabs when you are logged in as the 2nd user that’s a sign something like that has occurred here.

I’ve resolved it before by creating a temp user with admin privileges, log in as that user, delete the original user (assigning all the original user’s posts to the new user as author), and then reversing that process – delete the problem user, recreate a new user with the same name, login as that new user, delete the temp user, assign the posts back to the new user (who now has the same name as the original user).

make sure you have a complete database backup before you do any of that user/post shifting.

In case anyone else on here reads this with a similar “problem” …

I’d almost rather have you invest 2 hours and THEN read this solution because it’s very entertaining how stupidly-simple this was:

A reply was sent from Joel… his solution? …

“Check your user settings. Under your profile. Click your username in the top right, and check to see if the option to disable the HTML editor is checked.”

That’s precisely what it was. All set now.

    Wow! I feel S.M.R.T.

I’ll be contacting him to get a “thank you” over to him.

Thanks for everyone’s help though… now I have to scramble and get this thing setup since I absolutely WASTED 2 hours on this silliness. (I was digging through .css files, researching online … when all I had to do was check my settings.)

I can extremely lost at WP – I went through the tutorial but can’t find how to access the HTML/Css code. I have my WP page and went to SITE ADMINISTRATION to DASHBOARD. Went to USERS and then the category YOUR PROFILE and there is no reference to CHECK YOUR USER SETTINGS suggested by
    Tom Rasi.

Not sure how anyone does this setup. What am I missing.
My user name is under magicalview

check if you’ve uploaded all the files to your server.

I had the same problem, apparently i had some missing files under:
    wp-includes/js/

these are the java scripts that let u use the editor.

    hope I’ve helped

thank goodness for help forums, I just had the exact issue… All fixed now… Yaba daba dooooooo!
