I tried placing the code in functions.php in the main theme folder, but no change.

At one point I accidentally had the code in both functions.php and the site threw an error like this:

    Fatal error: Cannot redeclare decode_html_in_gdoc_table() (previously declared in /storage/ … /Child-Theme/functions.php:20) …

So I suppose this suggests that the code is loading as it should.

But I can’t get any formatting to display in WP, no links, no color, no nothing.

    Any ideas?

Does your spreadsheet contain any HTML code?

I have added some web links using the link tool there.

    That is not HTML code.

aah… pasting an a link worked.

So there’s no way that HYPERLINK in google could be translated as a proper link?

No. Google never exports hyperlinks. If they ever change that, maybe.

Ok I noticed a new problem.

The row I added the HTML link to is not sorting correctly now.

The link is set with a persons name in col 1 and 2 and the last column holds a result. I use the script to sort the page after the result and that’s been working.

Now the one row I added the link to is not sorting properly.

It’s sorting just fine. < (the first character in an HTML link element) sorts differently than a letter.

Like I said in the other thread, there are probably better ways to do what you want than writing HTML into a spreadsheet. Think about what you are doing and come up with an alternate approach.

No it’s not sorting fine. I’m not sorting the html column but the last column with numbers (bold)

    l a linked name l a linked second name l col 3 l col 4 l col 5 l col 6 l Results

Now the one row I added the link to is not sorting properly.

If the link is what’s causing a change in sort behavior, theb it’s the link you want to rethink adding.

    The spreadsheet shows 30-40 competitors.

Each competitor has a profile page at the site. The idea is that their names in the scoreboard spreadsheet should be linked to their profile.

I am setting this up for the end user. All they need to do when it’s finished is to adjust the results each week. They don’t even have to bother with sorting the list since it’s done in WP.

You mention that I should look for other ways to do this. Can you give me a hint how I build this for an end user with no web skills?

I don’t understand why a script that looks at col 7 for sorting should be distracted by content in other columns. Sounds like a bug to me.

    I found the problem.

When I used a link on all rows the sorting was still a problem. It turned out to be a problem with the decimals.

I need to use the same amount of decimals so 33,40 will work together with 22,31, but 33,4 with one decimal won’t work.
