  • Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

I really don’t know how to do any of that! My friend build this site for me but I cant ask him to help. Will i loose the site if I switch?

No you won’t. Your site’s content is stored in your database. If you want to run your own site, you really need to learn how to use basic tools like FTP. Otherwise, your only other option is to try hiring someone.

I can get on the dashboard I just updated to the newest version and tried disabling the plugins one by one but it made no difference. My company is only a month old and we are just starting to get somewhere now this happened and I am so at a loss it’s just a bit beyond me now and I have no one who can help me.

I did do some of it using the css codes for colour and stuff where is the FTP? I would hire someone but I cant afford it that’s why my friend build this site in wordpress, he told me it would be very easy to use…I think he lied!

FTP is not part of WordPress. It’s a basic upload/download application that is used in managing web sites. See FTP clients.

Is there anyway to fix the problem in wordpress without complicating the problem by going and having to learn some other techi thing. My site is down and my customers cannot access it, if they cannot access it my company wont work, if my company doesn’t work, my kid doesn’t eat…it’s pretty serious a problem and I really need someone who can help me!

I looked into FTP but don’t understand why I would need to go into when I can access my dashboard.

Is there any chat option to speak to anyone directly to talk through possible fixes or do I have to sit here all night/day/week and wait for someone to come to my aid?

WordPress is free software. There are no chat options and there is no dedicated support beyond this volunteer-staffed forum. If you want that level of support then you may want to try hiring someone.

Well I certainly wouldn’t hire you! I am looking for some help not someone who wants to be a smartass and make a bad situation worse. Is there anyone out there who uses this site to assist people or I am going to have to deal with someone who simply wants to – for some unknown reason – make a new wordpress user consider leaving the whole lot behind and going elseware?

This is your site. It is beyond the remit of these forums to teach you how to use tools such as FTP. Everyone here is a volunteer and, as such, has no direct interest in whether you use WordPress or not. They are WordPress users helping other WordPress users. But coming out with comments like that is definitely not the way to get help from anyone.

Helping? That would be lovely but thus far all you have done is be a pedantic pain in the ass and really made no sense. I don’t need to use FTP i can access my dashboard. The only suggestion you seem to be able to offer is to HIRE HELP! I am pretty sure that it not the aim of the forum so as for “coming out with comments like that” you may want to look into taking up your own advice. As a forum and a free service, you must also learn to appreciate that some, if not many, wordpress users are not experienced in certain aspects of the service and thus require help from time to time, not pedantic, unhelpful and pretty pointless comments like yours.

    You did originally state:

nothing but my homepage is working on my site https://www.slugsandsnails.ie

If you can still access your admin, try:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

I have deactived all plugins, and deleted those I would never use. I did install Counterize the other day and wonder if this is the problem. I have read that my host might have a limit on my capacity and that this plugin can be quite large.

I uploaded the new version of WP thinking this may be the problem, nothing changed. I was in the main editor section today and wonder if I messed with the wrong thing in there, but not knowing what would be important in these templates I just can not tell.

    ps thank you
