  • I uploaded the new version of WP thinking this may be the problem, nothing changed.

No! You cannot use copy of WordPress 3.3 core with a 3.2.1 or below database. You either need to upgrade properly to WordPress 3.3 or replace that copy of WordPress with the correct version for your site first.

I went to plugins and it said a new version of the WP shop was available so I clicked update – was that the wrong thing to do?

No – that’s OK. Sounds like you carried out an auto-upgrade – which should be fine. Its just that there is a big difference between uploading 3.3 and upgrading to 3.3. Did you try any of the suggestions I gave above?

I did the plugins and the rest I don’t understand to be honest. I am lost here and my head is banging. I am gutted that when I finally got my company to start getting some serious hits this goes and happens and I just don’t have the know-how to fix it.

Sorry but we’re back to being you being able to use some basic site management tools again. ?? Does your hosting company offer any form of file management application that you could use?

I have gone back through my history and I think I may have messed with the Themes in Edit Themes and Theme settings. I recently verified in Google and had to put the meta data in and had it in themes without needing it there I wonder if that is the problem?

Your website looks to be partly working, albeit when you select a product it brings you to an IP address instead of the proper domain. And one or two of the links don’t seem to be functioning correctly. Like the ‘Our Story’ link. So there still may be a few kinks you need to work out yet.

Ideally the URL shouldn’t look like this https://79.170.44.80/slugsandsnails.ie/?wpsc-product=high-flyer. This could be a hosting issue.

There is no way to know exactly what the problem is without taking a lot at your WordPress setup. We can only see what WordPress is serving up, but we’re at best guessing what the problem is.

I would seriously suggest you go back to your friend, and ask them for their help and document what steps you took to get to this point.

Thank you so much! I have tried to track down my friend but to no avail. Is there anyway you could look at it for me?
