• I have a set of seven images that I tried to upload, six uploaded ok but the seventh will not upload no matter what I do, I have tried adding code to my themes function.php file, as I found in WP Beginer website.

None of this is helping. I have tried changing the image name etc.
If I try different image it uploads ok.

    Can anyone help please?

You may need to increase the amount of memory. Try asking your hosting provider about it.

    Hello Simon!

If the image is a JPEG, PNG, or GIF, there may be an issue with the image itself. The file may be corrupted, it may be saved as the wrong file extension, or a host of other issues. Best option would be to open and resave the image to see if that sorts out any issues. Below are a few things to try:

If you have a photo editing application like Photoshop, that would be your best option. Open it up and “Save for Web” as a High Quality JPEG.

If you don’t have Photoshop but have a Windows PC, you can try opening the image in Microsoft Paint and saving it out as a JPEG or PNG. With the image open, click File > Save As > JPEG (or PNG).

If it’s not a very large or high resolution image, double-click it to open, view it full size on your screen, and take a screenshot of it (shift+cmd+4 on Mac, or use the Snipping Tool application on Windows). Then save that out as a JPEG or PNG.

If the image won’t open in any applications, that means it’s likely damaged. The only real option then is to go back to the original image on your camera or storage device and try re-downloading it.

Hope this helps! Let me know if any of these options work out.

    Hi Nichole
The image is 1.74mb and has the .jpg file extension and opens normally anywhere else, it was taken on my iPhone along with the other imagages that have uploaded correctly.
My host provider is stumped. They increased my upload limit to256mb and checked my memory usage as 3557.6 MB used of Unlimited.
I have uploaded it to the same folder via FTP and the file shows there, but does not display in WP media.

Hmm. Even if it opens fine, there could still be an issue when WordPress tries to work its magic creating thumbnails and other display sizes. If you have time and capability it may still be worth opening and re-saving the image to ensure that it’s clean.

Here’s an older support post referencing a similar issue – They solved it by using a plugin to manage the “problem” image upload. Images FTPed to Upload Folder Not Showing in Media Library – the plugin referenced there is unsupported but “still works,” or there’s a newer, similar plugin that might do the trick: Media from FTP.

Images added to the Uploads folder via FTP won’t show up in the Media Library on their own, as they’re not logged in the database.
